I was very lucky to grow up in suburban Atlanta, Georgia with a musical-obsessed family. From the moment I could sit still for more than five minutes, my dad made me watch the entire works of Rodgers and Hammerstein films, which explains why Carousel is still my favorite musical to this day. Musicals were always a part of my life, but before I committed myself to the craft, I tried every sport and hobby that I could. This includes karate, figure skating, fencing, piano playing, sewing, softball, soccer, and horse riding. Eventually, I was asked the ultimate question; ‘what do you want to do with your life?’. The options were clear: Become an Olympic horse rider, or a Broadway star. I made the logical choice of pursuing a career on stage. Much less manure.
Atlanta was filled with other stagey families, so I had a plethora of opportunities to learn and perform. I got to work with wonderful companies like Stage Door Players, Company J, Broadway Dreams, and Atlanta Shakespeare Company. I ended up at a performing arts high school which gave me the opportunity to do shows that were never on my radar before, like Moliere and Marat/Sade, while also performing in wonderful musicals like Hairspray and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. I was also able to explore my offstage interests like costume design and directing. After school, I could be found at North Georgia School of Ballet fulfilling my love of dance.
After four long years in the public school system, I decided to put my dual citizenship to good use and move to Glasgow, Scotland and pursue a BA in Musical Theatre at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. I fell in love with Scotland and had the best three years filled with wonderful and challenging experiences. Some highlights include writing and performing a new musical as well as creating our own immersive concert, and performing in my third year as Fiona Mackeith in Brigadoon. In the summer of my second year, I attended American Dance Festival in North Carolina, where I danced more in those six weeks than I ever have, and even learned some hip hop…Sometimes I look back and can’t believe how impactful and eventful just three years can be.
In 2017 I packed my bags and headed to the Big Smoke. I hopped on the audition circuit and am still juggling work, classes, family, and a social life. One survival tip I have discovered since living in London is to keep learning and growing. I have done workshops with RADA, The Growing Studio, Punchdrunk, The Actors Center and Film Club. I also attend various styles of dance class and take regular singing lessons with the incomparable Alastair Brookshaw.
When Covid forced us into lockdown, I finally had time to pursue a side husstle that I genuinely enjoy, becoming a certified dog trainer and Puppy School UK tutor (contact me for training enquiries for your lockdown puppy problems!).
